Newport Development Company is a privately held development firm specializing in new construction and value-add re-positioning of apartments, condominiums and single family homes. We strive to stay abreast of current design and construction methods and trends in order to deliver unique projects that exude quality and longevity.
Our current focus is primarily with developments in neighborhoods such as Lakeview, Lincoln Park, North Center, Bucktown and Wicker Park located on the near north side of Chicago. Our goal is to deliver quality projects to the market that our clients will be proud to call home.
The firm also provides fee-based development and construction management services for individual clients.
Benjamin Dohmen – Principal
Mr Dohmen is responsible for the oversight of the sourcing, acquisition, financing, design, and development of the firms projects. This includes managing relationships with subcontractors, designers, real estate brokers and both construction & permanent lenders. Mr. Dohmen is a licensed Managing Broker and Realtor in Illinois.
Prior to founding Newport Development Mr. Dohmen was a Consultant for Planned Property Management and was responsible for analysis of operational issues, investment returns and vendor relationships. Prior to that role, Mr. Dohmen was an Associate with RBS Greenwich Capital in the Commercial Real Estate Finance Group and was responsible for the sourcing and underwriting of commercial real estate mortgages and mezzanine debt across all asset classes. Mr. Dohmen starting his career with Equity Office Properties where, as a Senior Analyst, he was responsible for asset management analysis as well as underewiting for acquistion and disposition opportunities.
Mr. Dohmen graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a BBA in Real Estate and Urban Land Economics as well as Finance, Investments & Banking.

This project is a 5-story, mixed-use, apartment building with 24 units and 4,500 square feet of retail space. There are 12 one bedroom/ one bath units in four different layouts, 11 two bedroom/two bath units in 5 different configurations and 1 three bedroom/ two bath unit. One bedroom units range from 642 square feet up to 885 square feet. Two bedroom units range from 954 square feet to 1,017 square feet. The three bedroom unit is 1,413 square feet. Amenities include smartphone based entry locks, roof top terrace with dog run, indoor dog washing station, bike room, package concierge, private outdoor space for each unit, and on-site parking.
